Yabancılara Türkçe Öğretiminde Ders Kitabındaki Kültürel Unsurların İncelenmesi: Uludağ Türkçe Öğretim Seti (A2) Örneği

Abstract

Language is a tool for reflecting the society and culture to which people belong. Therefore, accurately conveying the structure and cultural values of the society that speaks that language is also important in the process of language teaching. Learning a foreign language involves not only the structural use of a language but also getting acquainted with and eventually embracing the culture associated with that language. In this context, an important element of teaching Turkish to foreigners (TTF) is the teaching of Turkish culture. Course materials, which are a fundamental part of this teaching, should effectively reflect the culture of the target language. In this research, it was determined which elements of Turkish culture are included in the texts of the Uludağ Turkish Teaching Set-A2 level book published by the Bursa Uludağ University Turkish Teaching Practice and Research Center, and these elements were classified and interpreted with subheadings. According to the research findings, it was found that there is quite a lot of transfer in the cultural elements from 'daily life, social life, and geography and places' in this course book prepared for the basic user (A2) level; some deficiencies were observed in the subjects of 'tradition, folklore, music, eating and drinking habits'; and there was no data on 'prohibitions, language and history consciousness and love, values, birth and marriage traditions, dances'. The findings were interpreted in terms of language teaching, and suggestions were made for the TTF field.
